Outstanding Seniors

Please join us in congratulating our outstanding seniors in the Department of Agricultural & Resource Economics.  We had another semester of strong and competitive nominees.  We wish each of our Fall semester graduating students well, on their paths ahead, and always remember, Bear Down, Wildcats!

Agribusiness Economics and Management major outstanding senior is Noëlle Bell!  Congratulations, Noëlle!

A few words from Noëlle:

"When I was a child, I had a dream where a genie gave me one wish. I thought about spending it on a pet Pegasus or pet dragon, but ultimately, I wished for a place called “Peace Land”. Of course, Eight-year-old me was less than a professional writer and then spelled it “Piece Land”, but the spirit of the idea held. “Piece Land” was, simply put, a place where everyone could live their best lives, free from sadness and sorrow. I had a very happy childhood and all I wanted was for others to feel just as fortunate as me to be alive.

It wasn’t until my freshman year in college when I realized that this passion of mine from 14 years ago remained, and it wasn’t until I joined the AREC department that I could turn that aspiration into action. I started learning about all the opportunities for change and improvement in the world and with it, how we as students of knowledge could all go about solving them. I know it’s not a unique experience to take your first Developmental Economics class and suddenly feel like the chosen one, but that makes it no less valuable that a simple college class can reawaken a long-lost ambition to leave the world a better place than you found it.

I’m just an undergraduate without any real career experience, so I can’t honestly tell you I have a clear idea of what exactly I want to do or where I want to do it. However, I can tell you without a shadow of a doubt that there’s inequality, poverty, sexism, racism, and more, all filling the lives of people who need help. My goal is to help bring that support, and hopefully, bring a little “piece” of “peace” to their lives."

ABEM runner up to the outstanding senior primary place is Shelby Muñoz!  Shelby's placement is exceptional and should be celebrated for her academic accomplishments and growth in her time at UArizona.  Congratulations, Shelby!

Environmental & Water Resource Economics major outstanding senior is Angie Plank.  Congratulations, Angie!

A few words from Angie:

“I would like to start off with one of my favorite quotes that Robin Williams said in the movie Night at the Museum 3, "It's time for your next adventure." For many of us after graduating high school our next adventure was starting college. Coming to the University of Arizona we started a new chapter in our lives. For a lot of us, this was the first time we left home.

I was lucky enough to have the College of Agriculture and Life Science become my new home at the University of Arizona. I just want to say that I am thankful for every opportunity the College of Agriculture and Life Science gave me to grow as a person. For those graduating soon, "It's time for your next adventure" and I cannot wait to see the amazing things you do in the future.”
