Grad Student Presents Research at Two Forums

One of the opportunities afforded AREC grad students (and sometimes undergrad majors also) is the chance to present their research to a wider audience than just AREC members. For current M.S. student Elena Chin, this occasion has arisen twice during her time in the Department. In 2018 Elena and AREC professor Russ Tronstad, Elena's thesis director, attended the annual Arizona Cooperative Extension Conference where Elena displayed and discussed a poster of her research into consumer food shopping outlet preferences in the rural areas of Yavapai County. Elena notes that examinations of this kind in rural areas are "generally underrepresented in national or even state-level studies."

Then just last month in March, the College of Agriculture, Life and Environmental Sciences (CALES) held its annual all college poster forum and Elena again had her work on display. "CALES is very diverse college with people working in many different fields. The poster session is a way to educate college members on the research and work being done by others outside of our own areas. Often times at a conference we present our results to other researchers that have the same background as us. However, a lot of times, it is more important to communicate and learn from other disciplines to enhance our thinking process and the direction of our own discipline."
